Fushigi Yuugi (sorta): Through the Looking Glass

By Kati D'Esprit and Laura Gilkey

This is the story of a girl who gathered the Seven Sei of Suzaku. She gained omnipotent power and made every wish come true. The story itself is an incantation. Whoever finishes reading it shall receive this power. As soon as the page is turned, the story will become the truth and begin...

When I saw the first episode of Fushigi Yuugi, I was hooked. When I found out that the Seven Sei of Suzaku are seven people, I was enthralled. Before long, I was obsessed, and if you've done much looking around my site, you know what that leads to. Now, it might not have amounted to much. I Soulbonded my favorite character, had a few ideas for short fanfics that never managed to get written, it was fun. But, it was destined to go beyond that.

There are things the original creators did with Fushigi Yuugi that I frankly don't like. In fact, there are things they did with it that I utterly despise. I sailed through the first season of the anime as if in a beautiful dream. Then, I saw episode 35, and my world was shattered. (If you've seen this much of the Fushigi Yuugi TV episodes, you probably know what I'm talking about. If not, you're very lucky.) This was quite a trauma for me. I felt as if I had been a baby in the creators' arms and they suddenly dropped me. My best friend Kati, who shared the joy and obsession of Fushigi Yuugi with me, shared equally in the suffering.

Then, it hit us. We're Fanfic Writers! We don't have to take this! The decision was made: we would rewrite Fushigi Yuugi, as we thought it should have been. Then, we decided, if we're going to rewrite Fushigi Yuugi, let's do it like we really mean it. And so, with a few "What If...?"s and a few "Oh, that could be seriously fun...!"s, Fushigi Yuugi (sorta): Through the Looking Glass, known to Kati and I as the "Mirrorverse", was born.

So, get ready to enter a Universe of the Four Gods where Hongou Yui is the Suzaku no Miko, Nuriko willingly dresses and acts like a man from the start, Nakago is a nice person, and Chichiri is... well... I can't do her justice, you'll have to read that yourself.
Since we're rewriting the series from the beginning, you haven't missed any information you need, even if you've never seen Fushigi Yuugi before!
So please, everyone, click the links, read the episodes, and enjoy!

News, January 2005

While going through and cleaning up parts of my website that I had neglected, I was sadly surprised to find that this story has not been updated in about two years. I wish I could promise to do better, but although I still hope to finish the series someday, I'm still not again inspired to do so, so what you see is what you've got for the foreseeable future. Gomennasai! -_-;; At least the last posted episode makes a pretty comfortable resting place...
