As I've known him, Hotohori loves to write poetry, so he has a lot of them, although these I'm posting here are the only ones I actually know. A lot of his poetry is influenced by that lonely time before the Suzaku no Miko appeared, so it tends to be pretty sad. The first one he wrote here in my mindscape, when I realized that for all he's been called "Narcissistic," he'd never actually heard the story of Echo and Narcissus, so we found a copy of it. The second he wrote in his own world, not long after becoming the Emperor of Konan.
I am Echo
Waiting for you,
And I will cling
To that hope
Until there is nothing left of me
But a whisper in your ear.
I am Narcissus
Gazing in the stream,
And I will cling
To that image
Until there is nothing left of me
But a reflection on the water.
I wish it were raining always.
Not a wish for stormy skies
Or troubled seas,
But a gentle rain always.
And I would stand outside in the sun
With raindrops on my face,
Because then no one would notice
The raindrops from the clouds in my eyes.
If they asked me any questions,
I would say that I was laughing.
And everyone would speak
Of how happy and good-humored I was,
To be laughing so much.
And perhaps it would all be true.
Even laughing in the rain
Seems so much closer to laughter...
My days without your light
Seemed dark and endless,
A night sky
Without stars
Without moon,
But now I see they were a new moon night:
Only a moment,
Before the journey even begins,
A journey of discovery by moments,
Little by little to the full moon's light
And may I, like the Earth, be patient,
And may you, like the Moon, reveal to me,
As slowly, gently as cosmic time,
Your fullness, still a mystery.
